All Schools Touch Championships (ASTC) had a word with Iwan before he leaves to go on an exciting journey to the other end of the world.

ASTC: Tell us your story of how you got into Touch? How and where did you begin to play?

Iwan: Well, I started playing in the summer league in Llandysul in 2013 and subsequently the interest grew from there.  I then went on to play for the West Wales Under 15 team, Gorllewin Gwyllt and the Red Kites (West Wales regional team) and now I'm going to Australia to play for my country.

How did you get a chance to play for Wales?

I spoke with the coach, Gareth Revell through e-mails, He asked me if I was willing to go down to the Gower to practice with the Gower Dragons so he could see if I could make the cut. Then I got a message asking me to be part of the training squad and I then got into the final squad, and now I'm going to Australia!

So what kind of experience do you think you'll have at the World Cup?

Hopefully, I can improve my skills further, by playing against teams from different backgrounds, as well as helping my country to do the best they can in the tournament, and above all, to enjoy!

Who are you most looking forward to playing against?

I hope we get the chance to play against one of the Pacific Islands teams to face the Haka or Fimbi, and to see how physically those teams play.

So back to Wales - why do you think more young people should play Touch?

Well, using myself as an example. I play Touch and Rugby Union and I see that Touch can help a lot of other types of skills in rugby.  Also, it's a great game that challenges fitness, skills and makes you think in a different way to other sports.

Would the game suit schools, do you think?

Well, there are many schools in South Wales that offer the game already, through schemes such as 5x60 and I think it would be good for rugby if schools in the West, North and East also offered the game in school, as it would increase the interest from players and spectators, and improve the dedication of many pupils who do not get as much chance to play in union and league games.

Very best of luck to you, Iwan - here's hoping you have a great time and learn a lot more about this fantastic sport!

Cafodd Pencampwriaethau Cyffwrdd Ysgolion (PCY) gair gydag Iwan cyn iddo fe adael i fynd ar y daith gyffrous i ben arall y byd.

PCY: Dweud wrthym dy hanes yn y gêm Cyffwrdd? Sut a lle dechreuaist ti chwarae?

Iwan: Wel, dechreuais chwarae yng nghynghrair Cyffwrdd Llandysul yn haf 2013, ac ar ôl hynny gwnaeth y diddordeb tyfu, ac es i ymlaen i chwarae i dîm dan 15 Gorllewin Cymru, Gorllewin Gwyllt, a'r Barcudiaid Coch (tîm rhanbarthol Gorllewin Cymru), a nawr fi'n mynd i Awstralia i chwarae dros fy ngwlad

Sut gest ti'r cyfle i chwarae dros Gymru?

Bues i'n siarad efo'r hyfforddwr, Gareth Revell, dros e-byst, a gofynnodd e i fi os o’n ni'n fodlon mynd lawr i Gower i ymarfer efo'r Gower Dragons fel ei fod yn gallu gweld pa siâp oedd arna i. Ges i neges wedyn yn gofyn i mi fod yn rhan o'r garfan ymarferol, ac o fynna es i i'r garfan derfynol, a dyma fi'n mynd i Awstralia!

Felly sut brofiad gei di yng Nghwpan y Byd tybed?

Gobeithio, y byddaf yn gallu gwella fy sgiliau ymhellach, drwy chwarae yn erbyn timoedd o wahanol gefndiroedd, yn ogystal â helpu fy ngwlad i wneud y gorau yn y twrnamaint, a mwy na lai, joio!

Yn erbyn pwy wyt ti'n edrych mlaen chwarae yn erbyn mwyaf?

Rwy'n gobeithio y cawn ni'r siawns i chwarae yn erbyn un o dimoedd Ynysoedd y Pacific er mwyn wynebu’r Haka neu'r Fimbi, ac i weld pa mor galed yn gorfforol yw'r chwaraewyr

Felly nol at Gymru - pam ti meddwl dyle mwy o bobl ifanc chwarae Cyffwrdd?

Wel, defnyddiai'n hunan fel enghraifft. Rwy'n chwarae Cyffwrdd a Rygbi'r Undeb a gwelaf bod Cyffwrdd yn gallu helpu llawer o fy sgiliau mewn mathau arall o'r gêm. Hefyd, mae Cyffwrdd yn gêm dda sy'n herio ffitrwydd, sgiliau a'ch meddwl mewn ffordd wahanol i gampau eraill.

Fyddai'r gêm yn siwtio ysgolion tybed?

Wel, mae llawer o ysgolion yn De Cymru yn cynnig y gêm yn barod, trwy weithredoedd fel 5x60 a chredaf y byddai'n gwneud llawer o les i rygbi yn gyfan gwbl os byddai ysgolion Gorllewin, Gogledd a Dwyrain Cymru hefyd yn cynnig y gêm yn ysgolion, gan y byddai'n hybu diddordeb chwaraewyr a gwylwyr, ac yn gwella ymroddiad chwaraeon llawer o ddisgyblion sydd ddim yn cael gymaint o siawns yng ngemau'r undeb a chynghrair.

Pob lwc iti, Iwan - gobeithio gei di joio mas draw a dysgu llawer mwy am y gêm gyffrous 'ma.
