Y  SGWAD

Welsh-language S4C programme, Y Sgwad, featured Atomic Touch in 2013.  A group of young people teamed up with ex-Scarlet, Rhodri Gomer and current Scarlets Team Manager, Garan Evans to try out the game and then play a competitive game as part of the programme's weekly challenge.  Y Sgwad website

The game was developed between the Wales Touch Association and the Welsh Rugby Union, with input from Welsh Netball in 2011.

The basic premise was to create a version of Touch / Rugby that was attractive to all young players and could be played in any small indoor area.  The ball can be passed in any direction, players may run in any direction allowing players to develop their spatial awareness and handling skills in a non-threatening environment.

Atomic has now been rolled out to most secondary schools across Wales with the introduction of the WRU's Participation Officers.  Regional tournaments took place throughout the start of 2013 and the best schools from each of the regions were invited to represent their regions at Gemau Cymru in Cardiff.

Carmarthenshire were well represented at Gemau Cymru 2013, with Ysgol Dyffryn Taf, Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn and Ysgol Tre-gib all in attendance.  Congratulations goes to Ysgol Dyffryn Taf who eventually won the coveted Gemau Cymru title.
