The squads bolstered by the inclusion of several soon-to-be Welsh international players, play outstandingly well and outscored their opponents 22 touch downs to 10 during the three games played.

East Wales brought a relatively small squad and were missing some key players, which perhaps made the final scores a little bit complimentary to their western counterparts.  However, with that said, the West teams still had to perform well in order to gain the series victory against some experienced and well-drilled players coached by Wales Men's 40 coach, Sion Wyn Davies.

The backbone of the West Wales mixed and boy's teams were players from Gower Dragons Touch.  Most of the team have been competing in the Ospreys Touch league this summer as a Gower Dragons Under 18 team and finished in a highly credible third place.

Four of the Gower Dragon team playing for West Wales will now represent Wales in the inaugural Junior European Touch Championships held on the 5th and 6th August at Swansea University - Ben Bradley, Daniel Rees, Jake Archer and James Eynon.

Another player selected for West Wales, but unable to play, was Mollie North and she joins the lads in the Wales Under 18 squad at the Junior Euros.

Most of the remainder of the West Wales team were talent ID'd during a recent schools tournament held in Ammanford.  Each of these players has had very little exposure to Touch and they did remarkably well despite their inexperience.

Two other players were identified from the Gorllewin Gwyllt, Llandysul Touch league; Brandon Bradford and Sara Patterson.

JUNIOR  CHALLENGE  SERIES  2014

Following the highly successful inaugural 2013 series, West Wales are holding a trial for players interested in representing the regional Touch team at under 16 level.

The Junior Challenge Series is an excellent stepping stone into regional and national Touch in Wales.  Players from the 2013 teams have gone on to represent the Red Kites, Cyclones, Rebels and Warriors Touch teams at the Wales Touch Nationals in April 2014.

Some of these players will also be representing Wales at the Junior European Touch Championships in August.  The teams have also produced players that will be playing for open grade teams in the European Touch Championships, also in August.  Both events take place in Swansea.

TRIALS  FOR  WEST  WALES  UNDER  16  MIXED  TEAM

Male and female players in years 8, 9, 10 and 11 (as of end of academic year 2013-14) are invited to attend an open trial.  Those selected will then be invited to a squad training session in preparation for the East v West Junior Challenge Series.

Junior Challenge Series is on Friday 25 July at Swansea University Sports Centre.  Tap off times will be confirmed as soon as possible.

Players must currently reside in one of the following counties to be eligible for the West Wales team: Bridgend, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire or Swansea.

Players wishing to attend, should download the registration form and return to one of the West Wales coaches prior to the trial.

We also request that you confirm your attendance at the trial via phone or email.  This will assist us in planning.  You are also welcome to contact us should you have any questions.
