2014 WALES TOUCH SERIES ROUND 3, LLANDYSUL, CEREDIGION
WTS returns to Llandysul for a second year running and will be hosted by Gorllewin Gwyllt.

Touch is relatively new to west Wales, but is definitely becoming increasingly popular and hosting events such as WTS will definitely help to boost the profile of the game in Wales. Gorllewin Gwyllt are also one of the only clubs that are currently operating a junior programme and kids aged, 9 to 12 can be found playing the game every Friday evening in Llandysul.

RAPTORS TAKE THE FIRST WALES TOUCH SERIES TITLEWTS1 took place in scorching heat on Llandysul Playing Fields on Saturday 8 June 2013 - and it was another historic day for Touch in Wales.
For the last few years, both England and Scottish Touch have organised a series of club tournaments in which any club side can enter team(s) and accumulate points over the course of the series. Not only does this help develop clubs to improve and perhaps enter teams in new categories, such as Women's or Mixed, but it also ensures that the top club players come together to regularly challenge and test each other at a high level. It also gives a chance for referees to be coached, developed and potentially upgraded to their next badge. Due to the historic Cardiff-centric nature of Touch in Wales, it hasn't really been deemed necessary to take the game to locations out of Cardiff in the past. However, with the rapid expansion of the game in the last few years into areas such as Wrexham, Swansea, Llanelli and the Rhondda (to name but a few), the time has now come for Wales Touch to provide top level club tournaments during the summer season. 2013 sees a four-round series of tournaments - the first of which was held in Llandysul. ROUND 1 - LLANDYSUL, 8 JULY 2013 Despite only three clubs entering teams, the standard of play and refereeing was high and the venue was fantastic - big thanks to Cymdeithas Chwaraeon Llandysul for cutting and marking the pitch especially for this tournament. It should be noted that there are currently very few Mixed Open leagues in Wales and perhaps that was a factor in the low number of entries. Teams on the day were two Cardiff-based teams; Raptors and Phoenix Touch alongside newbies, Gorllewin Gwyllt. Each team played the others twice and despite being on the wrong-end of some convincing score-lines, Gorllewin Gwyllt's team, made up mainly of invitational players based in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion, acquitted themselves very well in the club's first ever tournament. Gorllewin Gwyllt were forced to draft in two 14 year-old female players (Cerian and Aran) at the last minute due to player unavailability. Despite only having previously played 30 minutes of competitive Touch, both girls did fantastically well. The team also featured several Barcutiaid Coch | Red Kites players who had represented west Wales at the Wales Touch Nationals in April, as well as Claire Davies who has just taken up Touch in the brand new Newcastle Emlyn league. The team also benefitted from the inclusion of seasoned Touch-campaigner Khal Salim who represented Wales Senior Mixed at the last Touch Euros as well as in various other categories in other top-level tournaments. Read a full WTS Round 1 write-up, including all results, courtesy of Raptors' Kate O'Neill. The tournament was deemed a success by all concerned and if Round 2 is played in a similar spirit of enjoyment, camaraderie and top-class Touch, it should be a great event. WTS Round 2 is in Swansea (venue TBC) on Saturday on July 20 with Men's and Women's Open divisions being contested. Round 3 will be held in Wrexham on 10 August and Round 4 will be held at Pontyclun on 31 August. Contact Wales Touch Association for more details. WALES TOUCH SERIES 2013
